Originally from Peoria, Illinois, violinist Deborah Nixon is an active freelancer and teacher in New York City. She has performed in various ensembles in the city, including the Bronx Opera, Mimesis Ensemble, and the Chelsea Symphony, with which she recently appeared as soloist. She earned a Master of Music in Solo Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music (UK) and a Bachelor of Music (magna cum laude) in Violin Performance with a minor in British Literature from NYU Steinhardt. Internationally, she has performed as an orchestral member in the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano, Italy and as a chamber musician in the RNCM Chamber Music Festival and Friday Chamber Series in collaboration with the late Peter Cropper (Lindsay's Quartet). Summer festivals have included the Aspen Music Festival and the Künstlerhaus Boswil (Switzerland).
With over eight years of teaching experience, Deborah is a dedicated educator to violinists of all ages and levels. Her approach emphasizes musical understanding and creativity with the support of a comfortable and reliable technique. She is a member of the American String Teacher’s Association.
